After weeks of closures, reading enthusiasts with a Vancouver Public Library card can now take out books at some branches.

Therefore, the Board has established rules for the borrowing of materials intended to provide equitable and convenient access to the resources of the Library District.
Patrons must report lost or stolen cards to the library to avoid being held responsible for materials checked out on their cards after the loss or theft is reported. If a patron reports a card lost or stolen, they must present ID in accordance with policy to be issued a new card. Library materials are loaned to individual library users with valid library cards for a specified period of time.

The library has frequently seen a bump in borrowing numbers for certain titles that are adapted to film or TV, such as Little Women which recently had another film adaptation premier in theatres. I just find it a really great thing that in a world that is changing very rapidly, something that has stayed the same is that comfort and enjoyment of reading.

On December 1 ( to p.m.), the Vancouver Public Library’s central branch ( West Georgia Street) will hold its first-ever Read Dating.

Patrons will be able to pick up existing holds on books and other material, browse books in short visits, return items and schedule time to use public computers. Takeout service is currently offered at Champlain Heights, Dunbar, Firehall, Hastings and Kensington branches, but it will be expanded to more locations throughout the summer, according to the VPL.
Patrons can also return books, DVDs and other materials at both the takeout locations and opened branches starting July 7.
